Tropical Storm Nolo: 

Tropical Storm Nolo strengthening, Hawaii braces for flooding, winds. 

Nolo is expected to strengthen into a hurricane Thursday night and reach major hurricane status (at least Category 3) by the weekend, though its precise track remains uncertain. 

Nolo will head north towards the Big Island, then at some point later Friday or Saturday, bend sharply west. 

The latest run of models has actually pulled the track of Nolo farther south and the Big Island is now not in the cone of uncertainty. Should this trend continue, more of the heaviest impacts could stay offshore. 

But, storms tend to wobble in the cone of uncertainty, so should the storm turn to the west later, there could be a ramp up of winds as the storm makes its closest pass to the islands. 

But even if the Big Island stays outside of the cone of uncertainty, impacts will still occur well beyond the cone. 

At least parts of the main islands will see the triple threat of rain, winds and waves. This will happen regardless of how close Nolo's center tracks to the Big Island and whether or not it ever makes a landfall.

The track's southern shift has had little impact on how much rainfall is expected on the Big Island, Maui, Lanai, Molokai and Kahoolawe. Flood watches remain in effect. 

Locally heavy rain from Nolo's outer bands could fall well in advance of the closest approach of the storm. 

Here are the peak rainfall forecasts from NOAA's Weather Prediction Center. These peak totals are most possible over mountain slopes: 

Parts of the Big Island: Up to 35 inches

Parts of Maui: Up to 20 inches

Rest of islands: Up to 6 inches

This could lead to life-threatening, potentially catastrophic flash flooding and mudslides on the Big Island and Maui, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Please register cars at the front office during business hours, or email office@kauhalemakai.org with the following contact info. (name, phone number, license number and color and type of car)

Check-in: There is no VI staff on site at Kauhale Makai. You will receive communication from Waikiki Operations with instructions to access your unit. You will receive your door code on the day of arrival, therefore it is very important to make sure you have provided us with an email address and cell phone number that you will be able to access upon arrival.

Register your vehicle with the onsite management office (located on the ground floor of the Plumeria Building), and identify yourself as a VI Resorts guest. The office will issue you a parking pass for the week. This must be returned to the office when you leave. If after office hours, there is a drop box on the lobby front door.  Passes not returned will result in a $25 replacement fee.

Check-out: Check-out is 11:00 am.

Pool Towels: The Kauhale Makai does not provide pool towels.

Resort Activities

Resort activities and fees are subject to change at any time due to weather conditions, group sizes, interest and/or season. See resort for times and availability at check-in.

Fees/Taxes

Fines: The following fines will be assessed for non-compliance.

Over-occupancy Policy: $50.00 per person, per night. Occupancy limits apply to all ages including infants.

No Pet Policy: $350.00. Pets are not allowed at VI Resorts.

No Smoking Policy: $350.00. Smoking and vaping (tobacco or Cannabis) are not allowed in rooms, on decks, lanais or patio.

Late Check-Out Policy: $25.00. Charged every half hour after check-out time of 11:00am.

 

Fees

Accommodations/Lodging Tax: As required by state and local regulations, this nightly tax rate is based on condominium size and season and charged at the current rate upon arrival.

Resort Fee: The Kauhale Makai Association of Apartment Owners charges a $30.00 (per stay) resort fee. This fee, applicable to everyone including residents, renters, time share guests, and owners, is in lieu of a parking fee. Resort fees are common and accepted practices in West Maui and in Hawaii, in general. It will be will be added to your VI Operating Fund bill, following your stay.
