Tropical Storm Nolo:
Tropical Storm Nolo strengthening, Hawaii braces for flooding, winds.
Nolo is expected to strengthen into a hurricane Thursday night and reach major hurricane status (at least Category 3) by the weekend, though its precise track remains uncertain.
Nolo will head north towards the Big Island, then at some point later Friday or Saturday, bend sharply west.
The latest run of models has actually pulled the track of Nolo farther south and the Big Island is now not in the cone of uncertainty. Should this trend continue, more of the heaviest impacts could stay offshore.
But, storms tend to wobble in the cone of uncertainty, so should the storm turn to the west later, there could be a ramp up of winds as the storm makes its closest pass to the islands.
But even if the Big Island stays outside of the cone of uncertainty, impacts will still occur well beyond the cone.
At least parts of the main islands will see the triple threat of rain, winds and waves. This will happen regardless of how close Nolo's center tracks to the Big Island and whether or not it ever makes a landfall.

The track's southern shift has had little impact on how much rainfall is expected on the Big Island, Maui, Lanai, Molokai and Kahoolawe. Flood watches remain in effect.
Locally heavy rain from Nolo's outer bands could fall well in advance of the closest approach of the storm.
Here are the peak rainfall forecasts from NOAA's Weather Prediction Center. These peak totals are most possible over mountain slopes:
Parts of the Big Island: Up to 35 inches
Parts of Maui: Up to 20 inches
Rest of islands: Up to 6 inches
This could lead to life-threatening, potentially catastrophic flash flooding and mudslides on the Big Island and Maui, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Heavy rainfall associated with Tropical Depression Fifteen-E is expected to begin affecting eastern portions of the Big Island on Wednesday, with periods of heavy rainfall continuing across the Big Island and Maui through Saturday. Rainfall totals could exceed one foot in some locations, particularly over steep terrain, resulting in the potential for life-threatening and catastrophic flooding and mudslides. The remainder of the Hawaiian Islands is expected to receive lower rainfall totals, although isolated flooding remains possible.
Heavy Rainfall Locations
- Big Island of Hawaii: Heavy rainfall is expected to begin affecting the eastern portions of the Big Island on Wednesday, with periods of heavy rain continuing through Saturday. Rainfall totals may exceed one foot, particularly in areas of steep terrain, creating the potential for life-threatening flooding and mudslides.
- Maui: Periods of heavy rainfall are expected through Saturday, with significant flooding and mudslide concerns, especially in areas of steep terrain.
- Remainder of the Hawaiian Islands: Lower rainfall totals are expected compared with the Big Island and Maui; however, isolated flooding remains possible.

HOA Pipe Project:
There will be a Hololani Board of Directors (HOA) Pipe project tentatively May 2027- Oct 2027. The cast iron drain waste and copper hot water pipes will be replaced. Please check the KBYG for project updates.
Safety Notice Regarding Lanai:Recent engineering and architectural evaluations identified age-related deterioration, corrosion, and significant joint distress within the building’s soffit assemblies. Based on these findings, the consulting professionals have recommended the removal of all existing soffit assemblies.
In accordance with these recommendations and out of an abundance of caution, the Board is taking proactive steps to protect the safety and well-being of all residents, guests, visitors, and staff.
Effective immediately, all small lanais are closed until further notice. Access to the affected lanais is prohibited. Residents may open the glass lanai doors for ventilation; however, screen doors must remain closed and secured, and no person may enter or use the lanai area. This temporary restriction is being implemented as a precautionary safety measure while additional assessments, planning, and next steps are evaluated.
What Owners May Notice
Over the coming days and weeks, owners may observe:
- Additional engineering inspections and evaluations.
- Temporary restrictions affecting access to certain lanais, as recommended by the Association’s consultants.
- Requests for access to individual units to facilitate inspections and assessments.
- Ongoing planning related to repair, removal, and replacement options.
- Contractors and consultants on site conducting assessments and developing recommendations.
Owner Responsibilities
Owners are asked to:
- Follow all posted safety notices and access restrictions.
- Do not enter or use any restricted lanai area.
- Keep screen doors to affected lanais closed and secured at all times.
- Respond promptly to requests for unit access when inspections are scheduled.

No Beach Access:
There is currently NO beach access at Hololani due to severe shoreline erosion.

Air Conditioning: The units do not have air conditioning, but are equipped with ceiling fans.
Check-in: Effective April 1, 2024, the check-in office for the Hololani is at the VI Resorts office located at 4405 Honoapiilani Hwy (Kahana Gateway Center) next door to Snorkel Bob's. For after-hours check-in, please call (800) 262-4048 for instructions.
Internet access is available in each condominium.
Emotional Support Animals are not allowed at this resort. Only Service Animals are allowed.
Limited privacy: One bedroom is separated from the living room with a sliding screen.
Parking: One (1) parking stall per unit. Exceptions cannot be made. All vehicles not parked legally may be towed at the Guests' expense.
VI Staff: There are no VI personnel onsite; concerns should be directed to the VI staff located at 4405 Honoapiilani Hwy, next door to Snorkel Bob's.

- Fees/Taxes
Deposit: A $100.00 credit card authorization is required at check-in for all Owners and Guests. No cash accepted.
Fines: The following fines will be assessed for non-compliance.
Over-occupancy Policy: $50.00 per person, per night. Occupancy limits apply to all ages including infants.
No Pet Policy: $350.00. Pets are not allowed at VI Resorts.
No Smoking Policy: $350.00. Smoking and vaping (tobacco or Cannabis) are not allowed in rooms, on decks, lanais or patio.
Late Check-Out Policy: $25.00. Charged every half hour after check-out time of 11:00am.
Fees
Accommodations/Lodging Tax: As required by state and local regulations, this nightly tax rate is based on condominium size and season and charged at the current rate upon arrival.
